Copenhagen
"Steeped in history and modern, lively, but above all cosy - this interplay is what characterises Copenhagen for me. Magnificent palaces and the lovingly renovated old merchant houses reflect the eventful history of the Danish capital, while the contemporary architecture and the love of the bicycle as the number one means of transport show the modernity and open-mindedness of its inhabitants. The city can be explored on foot or by boat to suit your own taste. Often in view is the New Opera House perched prominently on the Holmen peninsula, which has quickly become another cultural and architectural landmark in Copenhagen since its opening in 2005. Music lovers now have a choice of three venues alongside the Old Opera House from 1748 and the modern concert hall - pure musical enjoyment.
The “second living room” of many Copenhageners, Nyhavn, is also my favourite place in the city: strolling along the historic promenade past the colourful merchant houses, enjoying a coffee, lunch or a sweet (the Danes love their liquorice ice cream) with a view of the water and watching the hustle and bustle in a relaxed manner: that's how ‘hygge’ works!"
